December News

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s A Not So Silent Night! It was a wonderful evening, and we are so grateful to everybody who joined us in person or supported us remotely by bidding in the online auction. Through sponsorships, donations, ticket sales, and the online auction we raised over $20,000 to support REACH’s mission of providing equitable access to arts programming in the Greater Lansing area.

A special thanks to the Not So Silent Night planning committee, our amazing team of volunteers, and the Just 4 Strings players for making it a festive night and a wonderful celebration.

There is still a chance to check out the amazing work in this year’s Featured Artist Exhibition. The show will hang in the REACH gallery through January 31 and is open for viewing Monday-Friday 12:00 – 5:00 pm or by appointment.

Thank you to our 2023 event sponsors:

MAKE AN IMPACT!

SUPPORT REACH THROUGH A YEAR-END DONATION

There is still time to make a year-end donation to REACH Studio Art Center. REACH relies on individual donations to cover roughly a third of our operating budget each year. In addition to our free intergenerational Walk-in-Wednesday program, we provide scholarships to qualifying families for ALL of our youth classes. Last year, 42% of all our students were enrolled in free or reduced-fee classes. Your tax-deductible donation will have a direct impact on our work at REACH and help to ensure that REACH can continue its 20-year legacy of providing creative opportunities for all ages and abilities and ensure that cost is not a barrier for youth to receive high-quality arts programming.

ART CLASSES FOR ALL - Winter Registration is Open

Now is the time to register for winter classes and workshops! Our winter term starts January 9 and there is no better way to beat the winter blues than to create art in community. Register online using the link below or give us a call to purchase a gift certificate for one of our amazing classes.

Youth Classes – REACH provides hands-on art classes for kids as young as two years old. Whether your child is looking for a fun creative experience or wants to develop artistic skills in a specific medium our teaching artists work with students at all levels of experience and ability. Full and partial scholarships are available to qualifying families for ALL youth classes.

Intergenerational Classes – Our intergenerational classes are open to more than one age group. Classes like walk-in-Wednesday and Art Lab are a great opportunity for families or siblings at different ages and stages to make and create art together.

Adult Classes- Whether your creativity has been in hibernation, or you are looking to learn a new skill, our adult classes are a wonderful opportunity to learn from an expert teaching artist and develop your craft in a number of different artistic mediums. Check out our adult classes which range from clay wheel to intro to sewing, or drop in for our life drawing sessions each Friday evening.

Workshops- This winter we look forward to hosting a new workshop every week. Workshops are a wonderful opportunity to try something new without a huge time commitment and to learn a specialized skill from an expert teaching artist. This winter our workshops include watercolor, canvas stretching, casual clay, and more.

Walk in Wednesday is Expanding!

Our FREE Walk-in Wednesday art class is expanding! Thanks to the City of Lansing, and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing for an Arts Project Grant that will help us expand our Walk in Wednesday program! Walk-in Wednesday is a free drop-in class open to all ages and abilities (children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult) that runs from 4:30-6:00 pm every Wednesday. Each week our teaching artist leads the group through a different project that they can complete and take home that day. Previously class size was limited to 20 participants and we often had to turn people away, but thanks to this generous grant we will now be able to open the class to 35 participants each week!

Our next walk-in Wednesday class will take place on January 10. Check out our registration page to see the different projects we will be making this winter. Pre-registration is not required but highly recommended.

EAST LANSING ART PANELS

We are so thankful to have the opportunity to showcase some of the incredible artwork created by our talented students as part of the East Lansing Art Panel project.

Located at the Division St parking garage in East Lansing near the corner of Albert Ave and Division St., the eight panels highlight a few of the classes offered at REACH and will be on view through February. Make sure you get out to see the panels in person!

REACH YOUTH ART COUNCIL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Calling teens and young adults interested in positively impacting the community through art! The REACH Youth Art Council is a leadership and professional development opportunity for young people ages 15-25 who live in the Greater Lansing area. Members meet monthly to plan and implement artistic service opportunities. Members will also provide insight to REACH's leadership on the overall creative vision of the center and how best to engage teens and young adults in our community.
