Alice Brinkman

Founder and Executive Director. Growing up with an intense love of making things, I put my passion for sewing and materials into studying Clothing and Textiles, getting my M.S. from the University of Illinois in 1982. I ran my own dressmaking business starting with a simple sewing machine set up in our student housing apartment in grad school. A fiber arts class in college inspired me to become a surface-design textile artist, creating commissioned installations around the United States. My passion to share the joy of making things, especially with youth and underserved communities turned into teaching engagements in the Lansing area and eventually to the opening of REACH Studio Art Center in November of 2003. I now have 6 grandchildren with whom I love to share my love of making. I am inspired by the artist Paul Klee, whose art I find playful and vibrant.
