This class is for any adult who is interested in learning ceramic hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing. Over the course of eight weeks, artist and expert clay instructor Mackenzie Sheehan-D’Arrigo will help guide and teach special ceramic clay techniques! The class meets Thursdays, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m., October 2 - November 20.
Some techniques taught may include ceramic design for function, increasing visual effectiveness, and communicating artistic intent through: slab and coil building; sculpting and pinching; thrown and altered pieces; making larger work; reductive processes, such as kurinuki; surface and glaze design, including paper resist and slip transfers; and any other skills students are hoping to implement in their practice for a developed ceramic expression!
Students will also have access to unlimited reclaimed clay. Additional new clay available for purchase upon request. Outside clay is not permitted. Students will be charged a minimal fee for firing pieces based on the weight of dried clay.
Adult Clay students receive free admission to the Friday Clay Lab--to secure a time slot for a session, check in-person with your Teaching Artist.
