WEEK LONG CAMPS FOR AGES 10-13

Week 1: June 10th - June 14th

3D Scrap Wood House - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
Do you have aspirations to become an architect? In this camp we will create structures from an array of wood scraps, then decorate and accessorize the buildings with paint, different types of mediums, and found object collage!

Upcycled Fashion - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
Learn the basics of machine sewing skills and techniques by repurposing fashion! Bring a denim item of your choice, such as a jacket or a pair of jeans, and transform it. You can turn jeans into a skirt or wide legged pants, or upcycle a jacket by adding panels. Bring your vision to life and let your creativity go wild!

Week 2: June 17th - June 21st

Rhythm and Movement: Introduction to Breakdance - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
Immerse yourself in the rhythm and movement of breakdance, also known as breaking. Through dance and music activities you'll learn the basic vocabulary, history and traditions of Hip Hop culture, as well as participate in cyphers--the dance jams of the breaking world.

Everything's So Dramatic! - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
This camp will have us focus on the dramatization of literature. How does a piece of writing become a play or musical? Learn the adaptation process and how dramatization can add to or take away from a piece of performance art.

Week 3: June 24th - June 28th

What do You Meme? - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
This class offers an exciting opportunity to learn the art of meme design from start to finish! Initially, students will engage in brainstorming sessions to cultivate funny meme ideas and sketch out their concepts. Once the sketches are refined, students will transition to Adobe Illustrator to transform their ideas into digital illustrations. Finally, utilizing After Effects, students will elevate their memes with captivating animations, bringing their creations to life.

Creepy Selfies and Photo Editing - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
Learn to take photos with a Digital SLR camera, then transfer them into Photoshop to add your artistic flair. You'll learn to accentuate your photos using photoshop techniques by creating: spot color, kaleidoscopes, zombies (!), black light photos, levitation and cloning. To celebrate your results you will create a photo book of all of your creations.

Week 4: July 15th - July 19th

Leaves an Impression - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
With the use of a gelli plate, the printing tool that looks and feels like gelatin, we'll use patterns, textures, flowers and plants to create one of a kind prints. You'll incorporate your colorful prints in a variety of projects, including a whimsical animal collage and a luminaire!

The Art of Poetry - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
In this camp we will learn about poetic forms that combine visual art techniques with creative language. You'll look at examples published by experienced poets, and then engage in activities that combine writing prompts with visual art. Prompts and activities will be beginner-friendly with opportunities for more experienced writers to stretch themselves and learn new skills.

Week 5: July 22nd - July 26th

Tied Up in Knots - Introduction to Macrame - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
"Brace" yourself for a week of learning many bracelet styles and creative ways to make them your own. Each day we will learn a new basic pattern and a few ways to make it special, sometimes adding beads or other found objects. Our final project will be a keychain that combines all of the patterns and skills you have learned! At the end of camp, we will talk about ways to keep practicing friendship bracelets on your own!

A Quest for Comics - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
In this camp we will be learning about the basic building blocks of comics, as well the anatomy of a comic page; character building; easy zine formats; storytelling basics; and going from a simple, short format to a longer final project.

Week 6: July 29th - Aug 2nd

Star Power Songwriting - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
Ready to "So-la-ti-DO" some songwriting? Using GarageBand software you will learn fundamental music theory to craft original music. Foster both technical skills and imaginative expression in this unique music camp. You will learn common song structures, recording techniques, and strategies for writing your own lyrics. No music experience is required, just a passion for tunes and a desire to grow your inner pop star!

Dazzling Majorette Camp - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
This camp is designed for aspiring dancers with an interest in marching band style dance. Dancers will have the opportunity to work with Lansing's Dazzling Diamondz Coach on majorette basics: marching, hitch kicks, eight counts (aka stands), and even battle techniques. Mentorship and team building are key, so join our squad and twirl into success!

Week 7: Aug 5th - Aug 9th

Multimedia Masterminds - Morning Session 9am - 12pm
Jack of all trades, masters of some! In this camp, students will explore a variety of arts and crafts - weaving, painting, collage, and, many, many more!

Creature’s Features - Afternoon Session 1pm - 4pm
What makes a monster? Imagine, create, and examine creatures of all types in this fun and engaging art camp. Try out sculpture, collage and even storytelling to delve into the worlds of our creatures. Projects will include wire, cardboard, papier-mâché, paint, and whatever else we find interesting along the way!
