Volunteer

We love our volunteers and depend on them in many ways to help keep our programming going!

There are several ways to volunteer at REACH Studio. Volunteers help us reach further with our mission, and we could not extend the creative opportunities for children in the community without the help of our wonderful volunteers! Volunteers also benefit from the opportunity to practice skills for future employment and the chance to be a positive force in the community. Each position has its own detailed description with more specific procedures, guidelines and policies that apply to that particular position. Through our volunteer application process, volunteers will be matched with a position that fits their skills and schedule.

Volunteer Testimonials

Emily R. (Creative Connections Volunteer: Spring 2011 and current)
“I have definitely gained some experience in giving instructions and authority to the kids, how to help the students with their projects, acting, etc. I really liked being able to do something fun with the REACH kids each week. They always kept me laughing and I think REACH does a lot for these kids and is a wonderful afternoon activity.”

Tricia P. (Creative Connections Volunteer: 2010-2011 )
“I’ve learned through my work with children just how influential the adults/elders are in their life. By keeping myself aware of this I can make the conscious choice to make my influence a positive one. Plus, I love their imaginations and caring personalities that always have a profound influence on me. I love the creative artwork I’ve seen made at REACH – any medium you can think of I’ve seen created here, and the kids really love it. But, kids also learn things like teamwork, writing, and performing. The best work was clay studio where kids made dishes and ate out of them at a classroom potluck!”

Tara G. (volunteer: 2007)
"I am a junior at Michigan State University, majoring in Psychology. My goal is to attend a graduate program, and receive my PhD in School Psychology. I like volunteering at Reach because in the past I have not had a lot of chances to work with young children hands on, and I feel this has given me the opportunity to do that and has allowed me to learn a lot."

Bridgette B. (volunteer: 2005 - 2008)
"I received by BFA in Studio Art from MSU in 2004. I am currently applying to graduate school to pursue my MFA in the fall.  In the future I hope to teach art, exhibit my work, and continue working for non-profit organizations that promote the arts.  My main interests are photography, painting, and drawing. I enjoy volunteering at REACH because the genuine excitement and curiosity the kids have about art is contagious and I am inspired after every experience."

Rachel K. (volunteer: 2007)
"I am a Junior at Michigan State, majoring in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities.  I absolutely love coming to volunteer for Creative Connections at Reach because not only do I get to spend time with kids which I love, but I get to work in an environment that allows their creativity and artistic abilities to flourish which is an amazing thing to watch.  The concept of Reach is so unique and I feel lucky that I am able to volunteer in such a positive and wonderful environment."

Bonnie C. (volunteer: 2007 and current)
"I am a transplanted Michigander with my roots originating in the Upper Peninsula.  I have been a Dental Hygienist in Lansing for 37 years.  I decided to volunteer at Reach because my life has been filled with opportunity, friendship, & well being & I feel it is my turn to give of myself & share with others."
